Even though the Khmer Rouge lost power long before Pol Pot’s death, the insurgent group was still around. He died on April 16, 1998 and the Voice of America, a broadcast station of the United States, announced his death and that the Khmer Rouge would turn him over to the international tribunal. With his death, the Khmer Rouge Party formally dissolved.
